UEFA announces final hosts: Bucharest and Belgrade for the Europa League, Camp Nou and Allianz Arena for the Champions League
UEFA has named the hosts of the European finals for the coming years. The Allianz Arena in Munich and the renovated Camp Nou will host the Champions League finals in 2028 and 2029, while Bucharest and Belgrade will host the Europa League finals. Barcelona beat Wembley in the race to host the 2029 final thanks to the ambitious renovation project of its stadium.
The UEFA Executive Committee has named the hosts of the European finals for the next several seasons. Romania and Serbia will host the Europa League finals, with the Arena Națională in Bucharest hosting in 2028 and Serbia's new national stadium in Belgrade a year later.
For the Champions League, the choice fell on the Allianz Arena in Munich for the 2028 final, while in 2029 the trophy will be contested at the renovated Camp Nou in Barcelona. The Catalan project prevailed over the bid of London's legendary Wembley in a closely fought race for hosting rights.
Among the main factors in Barcelona's favor is the impressive capacity the stadium will have once reconstruction is complete: over 100,000 spectators, placing it among the largest football venues on the continent. Reconstruction of the facility began in 2023, and the coming seasons will see the completion of the stands and VIP areas, as well as the installation of the roof structure in 2027, a phase that will again require the team to temporarily move to the Montjuïc Olympic Stadium.
The 2029 final will be the third of its kind at the Catalans' stadium, after the memorable finals of 1989 and 1999. The club's management has greeted the news with enthusiasm, but also with a clear awareness of the responsibility to have the facility ready on time, capable of welcoming thousands of fans from all over Europe.
In addition to the hosts of the two leading competitions, UEFA also announced the venues for the finals of the Conference League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Women's Champions League for the 2027-2029 period.
