Rodri: We are not favorites in the Champions League
Barcelona's new signing Rodri shared his view on the club's chances in the Champions League, acknowledging the Blaugrana's ambition to win the trophy but without considering the team a favorite in the competition. The Spanish international explained why he believes the team still needs to polish key details to reach the top.
Barcelona's new signing Rodri shared his opinion on the Catalan giant's chances in the Champions League. He admitted that the team has the ambition to win the trophy, but he doesn't think the Blaugrana are the favorites in the competition this year.
"Yes, I definitely believe this goal is completely achievable. You could say it's the last step we need to take to establish ourselves and show all of Europe what kind of team we really are. At the same time, though, I don't think we're favorites. We have to be aware of where we started from and what exactly it takes to become champions. This squad still has to polish quite a few details to reach the top," Rodri told a Spanish outlet.
The Spanish international added that players like him come to the team precisely to contribute their experience to winning such special trophies. "For me, this isn't a competition that is simply won by the strongest team. The Champions League is a tournament of moments; it's extremely important to sense exactly when you need to act. Maybe that's the skill the current team still lacks. But if you ask me whether we have a chance, it goes without saying that this is exactly why I came here," Rodri said.
Barcelona began its campaign in the most prestigious club competition with a convincing 5-1 home win over Feyenoord.
