Man United starts with a convincing win over Sabah on its return to the Champions League
Manchester United earned an emphatic 4-0 win over Azerbaijan's Sabah in its first match of the Champions League league phase. The game was historic for both teams: the Red Devils marked their 300th match in the competition after a two-year absence, while for Sabah it was their debut in the tournament.

Manchester United recorded a convincing 4-0 victory over Sabah in both teams' first match of this year's Champions League league phase. The game held historic significance for both sides: the hosts returned to the competition after a two-year absence and played their 300th match in its history, while for the Azerbaijani champions it was their very first appearance. Four different players scored for the Red Devils across the two halves.
The hosts started the match at a high tempo, although in the opening minutes there were some signs of uncertainty in quick defensive transitions. Gradually, Michael Carrick's side imposed its rhythm, and two goals at the end of the first half practically decided the outcome. After the break, the intensity dropped noticeably, and the final minutes were more about calmly seeing out the result.
Both teams started ambitiously, and twice in the first half the visitors had real chances to cause the hosts problems, including a penalty appeal early in the match. However, the English side gradually took control and opened the scoring in the 27th minute after a fine attacking combination. Just after the half-hour mark, the visitors came close to equalizing but missed a good opportunity following a cross into the box.
The hosts doubled their lead shortly before the break with a well-worked attack down the right flank, and just minutes later struck a third time right after play resumed, capitalizing on a quick attacking combination.
In the second half, the pace dropped noticeably, but the Red Devils still managed to score a fourth goal around the hour mark, thanks to a well-executed combination in the opponent's penalty area. The visitors also had chances to score a consolation goal in the final minutes but couldn't find the finishing touch.
Manchester United now faces another serious test, as the team plays a city derby against neighbors Manchester City as early as Sunday.
