Kawhi Leonard signs new two-year contract with the Toronto Raptors

Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors have agreed on a new two-year contract worth $115 million, the player's agent confirmed. The deal comes months after the player's trade to the Canadian team, which was delayed due to an NBA investigation.

Forward Kawhi Leonard and the Toronto Raptors have reached an agreement on a new two-year deal worth $115 million, the player's agent confirmed to a media outlet.

The 35-year-old's contract includes an option to extend his stay by one more season, and the expectation in basketball circles is that the two-time NBA Finals MVP will finish his playing career in Toronto.

Leonard's trade to the Canadian team was agreed back at the end of June, but the deal could not be finalized immediately due to an ongoing league investigation into the player. The investigation concluded recently, with the NBA sanctioning the American's previous team with a $30 million fine and a one-year suspension for the club's owner. Leonard himself received a personal fine of $700,000 but will be able to participate fully in the upcoming season, which begins at the end of October.

The veteran delivered the only title in Raptors history in 2019, when he was also named Finals MVP, but shortly after the triumph he decided to continue his career with another team. Last season, Leonard posted the best scoring numbers of his career, complemented by solid figures in rebounds, assists and steals.
